It's time to invest in better train service!

Tell Congress that it's time to get serious about improving our nation's passenger rail network and that starts by supporting our Amtrak trains! 

In 2018 Virginia’s Amtrak trains removed 519 million passenger miles from our roadways, reduced the burning of gasoline by 10.9 million gallons, and eliminated the release of 97,000 metric tons of CO2 particulates. Additionally, our trains helped to generate $1.1 billion in economic benefits which created or sustained over 11,000 jobs.

Nationally, Amtrak generated $17.3 billion in economic benefits which helped to create/sustain over 276,000 jobs last year. Further, they removed 6.5 billion potential passenger miles from our nation's roads, reduced our fuel consumption by 137.6 million gallons which in return lowers our CO2 pollution by 1.2 million metric tons!

We are asking our Congressional delegation to:

Support funding for our Amtrak trains; Identify potential funding for the DC2RVA corridor and the Long Bridge expansion projects because they are vital to adding new service to Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Lynchburg/Roanoke/New River Valley; and secure the federal match to begin the final Richmond to Hampton Roads passenger rail federal study! One of the ways to accomplish these goals is to make sure the 2020 Surface Transportation Re-authorization includes a predictable, dedicated, and robust Passenger Rail Trust Fund and that it gives Amtrak the ability to enforce its federally mandated dispatching priority.

Combined these items will increase passenger rail service in Virginia by 67 percent, increase the reliability of our trains to over 90 percent, and reduce travel times by up-to 34 percent.

Because now is time to reinvest in our passenger rail system.
