Ask Virginia's Legislators to support HB 1414 and SB 890, the Governor Northam's Transportation Omnibus package, which will generate millions in NEW funding for rail and transit.

Governor Northam's Transportation Omnibus package HB 1414 (Speaker Filler-Corn)/SB 890 (Senate leader Saslaw) includes substantial investments in rail and transit funding in the years to come. In addition to reorganizing our transportation funding program into a more cohesive structure, it creates a new Virginia Transportation Trust Fund for which 22.2 percent will be dedicated to mass transit and 5.72 percent will be dedicated to rail. This new way of organizing our transportation revenue will make sure that transit and rail are no longer reliant upon the volatility of a small number of revenue sources.

Virginia’s transit network handles over 172 million trips every year taking, removing 1.2 billion passenger miles from our roads, creates/sustains over 28,000 jobs, and generates over $2.8 billion in economic benefits annually. Our passenger rail network handles 1.6 million intercity trips, removes over 550 million passenger miles from our interstates, and generates over $775 million in economic benefits every year.

By 2024, transit and rail will receive an additional $144 million annually to improve all of our community’s connectivity, take vehicles off the roadways, and create economic opportunities for all Virginians.

Please ask your State Senator and Delegate to support HB 1414 and SB 890 which will help to generate millions in additional funding for the state's rail and transit networks.
